Dr. Bhagath Singh is a post doctoral fellow at the French Institute of Pondicherry. His academic interest includes commons, village governance, social history of marginalised communities and collective action. He writes both in Tamil and English.


He is currently studying the coastal transformation of Cuddalore district, Tamil Nadu.

Visual Stories

Produced adocumentary titled “Alaivaikaraiyil” (Shorelines) in 2017, produced as part of Pipal Tree’s Climate Change Education and Awareness Programme representing from Tamil Nadu. The film focuses on the livelihood crisis endured by the Pattinavars, an indigenous fishing community in Pazhaverkadu village. It showcases the irreversible damage done by the so called developmental projects which has wiped out the age old profession of the fisherfolks. (
