Deadline: to send a CV and a cover letter: November 20th 2022

Eligibility: Tamil and English speaking PhD holder in Social Sciences with training in Gender and/or Feminist approach.

Tasks: The research associate shall work:

  1. In rural context (in 3 villages in Cuddalore district)

- 1.1. Household survey on food consumption, season wise, that shall include (family) home cooking and (individual) outside consumption. There should be a specific focus in the questionnaire on “traditional” food (keerai, millets) and the use of organic products and PDS items.

- 1.2. Qualitative, in-depth interviews on food in selected households. This shall include not only cooking and consumption per se, but also modes of supply. The qualitative household investigation will be compared with quantitative data produced by other projects conducted by IFP; a coordination with the IFP team will be possible to conduct a cross analysis.

2. In Pondicherry urban area (probably during a shorter period):

Same as in the rural Cuddalore district (quantitative and qualitative investigation).

Deliverables:

  • Fortnightly reports (online meetings and written note).
  • Final report.
  • Co-authorship of an academic article depending on the quality of the work, and of a booklet science-society approach.
  • Participation in the regular PATAMIL meetings and the Food platform. PATAMIL is a French-Indian cooperation project funded by Region Centre Val de Loire, France, on Food Justice and Democracy.

Duration of the contract: 15 months, starting from December 2022.

Supervision: Ritu Tyagi, Pondicherry University and Hélène Guétat-Bernard/ Frédéric Landy, French Institute of Pondicherry.

Participation in the PATAMIL project.

Salary: 35 000 INR monthly (no extra allowance).
