IRD and ADEME are pleased to invite you to a preview screening of the film

"Of wood and wind:Two alternatives for responsible shipping"

Co-produced by IRD and ADEME, with the support of the Institut français de Pondichery

Date : Thursday, October 5

Time: 6pm

Venue : in the Claude Levi-Strauss theater at the musée du quai Branly - Jacques Chirac

The result of a long ethnographic survey, this documentary film reveals the potential, in India as in France, of a return to sailing in maritime trade.

We follow the players as closely as possible to their practices, with the aim of highlighting their motivations as well as their hopes and doubts. As much as their know-how and varied initiatives, it is on their perseverance that the possibility of finding alternatives that will give wind and wood a new place in maritime trade may depend.

By looking at what may be happening in India and France, the film shows that the revolution taking shape today in this field will only gain momentum and have a decisive impact if it succeeds in reconciling ecological concerns with those of a socio-economic nature, both in Europe and the rest of the world.

The screening will be followed by a round-table discussion in the presence of :

  • Philippe Cauneau - engineer with ADEME's Transport and Mobility Department
  • Lise Detrimont - general delegate of the Wind Ship association
  • Marc Van Peteghem - naval architect, co-founder of VPLP Design
  • Jean Zanutinni - President of Néoline

The film team :

  • Hubert Bataille - IRD director
  • Gopinath Sricandane - IFP project manager, specialized in audiovisual archiving and documentation
  • Denis Vidal - URMIS research director (IRD/Université de Paris)

And to moderate the debate :

  • Vincent Guigueno - specialist in maritime history, Institut national du Patrimoine, Académie de marine.
