The present volume is an edition and translation into French of the Karṇānanda, a Sanskrit text attributed to Kṛṣṇadāsa, a 16th-century poet and inhabitant of Mathurā who was a member of the sect of Rādhāvallabha (devotees of Rādhā) founded by his father. A rich introduction traces the history of the Vaiṣṇava faith and origins of the worship of Kṛṣṇa and Rādhā and gives a glimpse of the life of the poet, his family and his literary work and an understanding of the principles of the devotion manifested by the Rādhāvallabha sect. It also presents the Karṇānanda and offers a detailed comparison between the latter and the works of Rūpa Gosvāmin, poet of the Caitanya sect of worshippers, who had a profound impact on Kṛṣṇadāsa.
